I am an applied microeconomist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. I work in the Emerging Market Economies section of the Division of International Finance and conduct research mainly on topics in labor, personnel economics, inequality, and the economics of education.

I am also a research affiliate of the department of economics at Yale University and a co-organizer of the Fed Applied Micro junior group (FAM Jr.), which is a system-wide working group for junior microeconomists from the Chicago Fed, Minneapolis Fed, NY Fed, Federal Reserve Board, Philly Fed, Kansas Fed, Dallas Fed, Atlanta Fed, Boston Fed, and SF Fed to meet and discuss early-stage ideas.

I currently live in D.C. with my life partner of 6 years and Rafa, our two-year-old golden retriever named after Rafael Nadal. I am originally from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand and enjoy reading in coffee shops, playing tennis, pickleball, kayaking, and am beginning to learn paddle boarding. I have also recently started to follow golf and hope to learn it in the next few years. My favorite golf player is Brooks Koepka and my favorite tennis player is Novak Djokovic.

My sister, Surabhi Shukla, received her PhD in law from Oxford and joined the law faculty of the University of Sheffield, in the fall of 2022. Her research interests are in constitutional law and theory as well as sexual orientation and gender identity laws.
